Function: to work to make sure that the IPS fully benefits from the talents of all our members, regardless of race, religion, gender, sexual identity, or disability. We will propose practices to make public programming in our planetariums as welcoming and as accessible as possible to the diverse communities we all serve. We are committed to:
We aim to work towards Inclusive Excellence in all that we strive to do. We define “Inclusive Excellence” as the commitment to “respect and embrace equity, diversity, and inclusion in people, ideas, and opinions.” With our Inclusive Excellence Plan, we aim to recruit, support, and retain a diverse population of active and engaged IPS members, affiliates, and leaders, and to create and maintain a culture and climate where all are welcome and everyone feels valued within the professional community.
We want every IPS member to be an active participant in this commitment to strengthen our communities as we work hard to learn and grow together.
Goal 1: Culture & Climate of Inclusion
We strive to develop a culture and climate within the IPS, and throughout its activities, where all community members experience a sense of belonging and engagement - a place where each individual’s professional wellbeing and contributions are valued and supported through respectful, authentic, and positive interactions with other members.
Goal 2: Inclusive Policies & Systems
We will evaluate, revise, and communicate changes in organizational policies that will facilitate and address reports of bias and discrimination, improve clarity, provide transparency, promote fairness, and enhance accountability in organizational processes.
Goal 3: Inclusive Conferences & Events
We will work with event planners to ensure events and programming reflect the IPS Inclusive Excellence goals and statements and to enable full participation of all members.
Goal 4: Recruitment & Retention for an Inclusive Organization
We will create an atmosphere that will lead to the recruitment and retention of a more diverse and culturally representative IPS at all levels from membership to leadership.
Goal 5: Professional Development for Inclusive Excellence
We will provide the resources, opportunities, and tools that increase awareness of and foster commitment to the principles and values of Inclusive Excellence.
