IPS Ad Hoc Committee:

Planetarium Design and Operations Committee

To provide high-level guidelines for design and management considerations - either for new planetarium projects or for existing planetariums that are beginning the process of renewal, or substantial technical upgrade.

Intended audience(s):

  1. IPS internal... Planetarium professionals seeking to be kept up-to-date on latest concepts of planetarium programming as it affects design considerations, as well as technical advances that influence planetarium design.
  2. External... The outputs from this committee would inform planetarium architects as well as boards of directors and museum executives who are in the process of upgrading planetariums, or designing new ones.
The committee would specifically be designated the task of updating "So You Want To Build a Planetarium" - and keeping it up-to-date on a bi-monthly basis (six times per year).

The committee would undertake all its tasks in a vendor-neutral fashion, and its members would be responsible for declaring on a timely basis any real or perceived conflicts of interest with regard to points of view or recommendations.
