The video collection project

Videotaping one or more of your lessons, either in the planetarium or during a lesson that supports planetarium visits, is a major project of the IPS Education Committee.

Committee member Oded Kindermann was so inspired by the Great Lakes Planetarium Association’s “Live from the Planetarium” project ( to suggest that the IPS Education Committee sponsor a similar project and open it to the world.

The committee is now requesting both brief digital video clips and longer digital video of lessons covering a variety of topics. These videos are not intended to be shown in a planetarium. Rather, they are being collected to show how others present different topics in astronomy to different age groups.

The video must cover a particular astronomy or astronomy-related topic. It may also cover a method of introducing students at any level to the planetarium. It may be short (5-10 minutes) or longer (up to half an hour). Another option is to submit a long video covering several parts of a planetarium program in a chained sequence. Students may or may not be present.

We will use this information in two ways:

  • To prepare an archive of exemplary video featuring astronomy lessons, to be shared through the IPS website and on Facebook; and
  • To prepare a longer, chained video suitable for in-service and pre-service training of planetarians.
  1. To get started, please see the Video Project Instructions page.

  2. To see videos that have already been completed, go to the
    Video Directory page.
