On Thursday, March 5, 3:30 – 4:30 Eastern, NASA’s Universe of Learning will host the Science Briefing “Women in Astronomy: The Past Inspires the Future”.
· Dr. Gabriela González (LIGO, Louisiana State University)
* Dr. Elizabeth Hayes (Goddard Space Flight Center)
* Dr. Farisa Morales (NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory)
Celebrate Women’s History Month by hearing about how astronomers of the past have inspired current astronomers and their research. Dr. González will present “The Long History of Gravitational Waves”; Dr. Hays will discuss “Gamma-ray Pulsars, Lighthouses in the Galaxy”; and Dr. Morales’ presentation will cover “The Formation of Planetary Systems and How Cecilia Payne Gaposchkin has Inspired Me.”

In addition to these perspectives, we will highlight several resources relating to their science content, including resources to engage girls and their families in exploring the wonders of science, and celebrating the contributions of women to STEM fields.
In order to participate in the telecon and ask questions of the presenters please become a member of NASA’s Museum Alliance at, where there is a wealth of other information available to you and your organization!
You can also see the presentation PPT and PDF on the Universe of Learning website (when these files are posted):
