IPS AWARDS COMMITTEE REPORT 2014
I. Function of the Committee
To publish a Call for nominations to Awards and IPS Fellows in Planetarian No. 1 in odd years and simultaneously send by email to IPS members.
To suggest to off-conference year Council worthy planetarians for IPS Service Award, IPS Technology and Innovation Award, and IPS Fellows. To have Awards made and Fellow diplomas printed and presented at the following IPS Conference. The work of the Committee is governed by IPS By-laws and Standing Rules.
II. Committee Chair and Committee Members (include name, affiliation, addresses/contact info):
III. Accomplishments of the Committee
The Committee suggested Awards and Fellows for the 2014 conference to Council in Bolzano, Italy in August 2013. Following the decision of Council, 2 glass crystal Awards, a President's glass crystal Award, and 7 Fellow diplomas have been prepared for IPS'14 in Beijing in June 2014, which will be given at the Awards luncheon on 26 June.
Years when almost all Fellows were named have been collected and sent to Alan Gould in April 2014.
IV. Future Goals of the Committee
Lars Broman is stepping down as chair of the Committee. The Committee must invite IPS members to nominate Awardees and Fellows well in time for the Council meeting in 2015, to be given during IPS’16 in Warsaw; we suggest this is done in Planetarian 4-2014 followed by reminders by email to Affiliate Representatives during the spring 2015. The Committee also suggests that the IPS By-laws and Standing Rules be modernized regarding the work of the Awards Committee.
V. Budget Requirements US$ 600 for 2014. No requirements for 2015.
The Awards Committee is one of IPS' Standing Committees. It has prepared two Technology and Innovation Awards, a President's Award, and a number of IPS Fellow Diplomas to be given during IPS'14 in Beijing, China.
Respectfully submitted, Lars Broman.
