This is a 12-month position to begin in July 2006. Santa Fe Community College (http://www.santafe.cc.fl.us/) is a teaching-oriented, student centered institution emphasizing both career-track programs and lower-division courses for university transfer. SFCC is located in beautiful North Central Florida near the University of Florida. Responsibilities and duties will include: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor‚s degree in Astronomy or Earth and Space Sciences is required. Experience with presentation technologies and an active interest in Astronomy is required. Planetarium experience is preferred. A commitment to education and the community is essential. A criminal background check will be conducted. Questions about the position should be directed to: ________________________________________ PLANETARIUM EDUCATOR / PROGRAMMER, PRESTONBURG, KENTUCKY The East Kentucky Science Center is accepting applications for a Planetarium Educator / Programmer. This is a 240 day salaried position with benefits that include health insurance, paid sick and personal leave, and retirement. The Planetarium Educator / Programmer has primary responsibility for the daily and timely operation of the Planetarium which includes public and educational programs, management within the Planetarium and for all technical operations within the theater. The Planetarium Educator / Programmer has the responsibility for general public and school programming. This includes writing and producing original programs (research, writing, timing, recording narration, supervising sound track preparation and mix, obtaining visuals, programming the automation computer, and preparing the working sound track), and primarily obtaining and adapting others for presentation within the EKSC Planetarium theater environment. This involves performing routine maintenance that ensures the GOTO Chronos, Spitz ATM-4 and Emedia systems, AVI Omniscan laser system and other planetarium equipment is operational. The Planetarium Educator / Programmer is responsible for informing local media reporters when unusual or remarkable events occur or are expected in the realm of astronomy, space science, and related fields. This may entail writing a press release, giving interviews in person or over the telephone, appearing on television or in other public situations to explain and interpret the event or situation. Additional duties include the supervision of all planetarium staff and volunteers, including staff training and evaluation; management, operation and maintenance of all planetarium equipment; management of the planetarium budget; and initiation and participation in revenue generating activities, such as fundraising and grant writing, and other duties as assigned. The successful candidate will posses a Bachelor=12s degree from an accredited institution with emphasis in Physics, Astronomy, Communications, or Education or a closely related field and five years experience in a programming or an educational position at a planetarium, science center or related institution; or; Preferred Masters Degree in the above mentioned fields and three years experience. Proficiency with computer graphics, video and audio editing programs such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, and Audition are strongly preferred. The candidate should also be able to lift 50 lbs, possess a valid Driver's License, successfully complete a post offer criminal background check, and be willing to relocate to Eastern Kentucky. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, and availability of funds. Salary Range - The salary is $35 - 40,000 annually based on qualifications with an excellent benefits package. The successful candidate must be able to work odd hours.
