Dear IPS Members,

Swarthmore College searching for a new home for its long-focus refracting telescope made by the John A. Brashear Company of Pittsburgh and installed at the Sproul Observatory. The classic telescope dates to 1911 and has a wonderful history, having been involved in the earliest claims for the detection of an exoplanet by means of observing Barnard’s Star. It could be a wonderful asset for education at a planetarium or science center.

An RFP and condition report for the telescope are available along with extra photos at this link: http://tinyurl.com/htc6pff.

For more information, please contact Sara Schechner (American Astronomical Society Working Group for the Preservation of Astronomical Heritage) at schechn@fas.harvard.edu

Sincerely,

Shawn Laatsch
