IPS ByLaws Voting Results

The IPS Membership has voted to approve two changes to the By-Laws suggested by Vision2020:

First, new membership categories have been approved (on a vote of 88 for, 1 against).

The new categories are:

  • Students/Career Starters
  • Senior/Emeritus
  • Business Associate
  • Associate

Note that changes to an individual’s membership category will take place only at the expiration of your current membership.

The new categories will come online soon. It is hoped that these additional categories will increase membership and participation in IPS.

Next, term limits for the Executive Secretary and Treasurer also were approved (on a vote of 74 for, 4 against, and 12 abstentions).

Each officer now may serve a maximum of 6 years, or 3 consecutive 2-year terms. After this maximum, if the person wishes to seek the office again, they must wait one election cycle (2 years) before becoming eligible to run again.

The president elect/president/past president cycle already has a 6-year limit and also requires the one election cycle separation. This brings the other two officer positions in line with the presidential cycle, and also ensures regular turnover of all officer positions. This, in turn, also allows for more potential member participation in governing IPS.

Thank you to all members who took time to vote on these important issues, the passage of which is helping us modernize the society.

You are welcome to check the By-Law changes in the document itself.

Best regards,
