IPS Council at RASIPS Council at the Royal Astronomical Society
Even before the main IPS Conference began, the Council was at work making decisions over issues that would effect the Organization. On this day they were meeting at the astronomiscally historic Royal Astronomical Society. (photo: Thomas Kraupe)

As you could imagine, the Royal Astronomical Society has an extensive library. Here you can see one of the oldest copies of Galileo's "Dialogues..." (photo: Thomas Kraupe)

On the bus to Jodrell BankPre-Conference Tour to Jodrell Bank
The day before the actual meeting started, there was a pre-conference tour to visit the world famous and equally historic radio telescope at Jodrell Bank. Following the ride from London by train, the participants transfered to a large bus and they were off to the telescope. (photo: Thomas Kraupe)

After all the traveling, the end result was this view of one of the most famous radio telescopes in the world. (photo: Thomas Kraupe)

Sir Bernard LovellThe Man Behind the Dream
Certainly a highlight for the members of the pre-Conference tour was to actually meet with and hear a few words from Sir Bernard Lovell, the founder of the Jodrell Bank Radio Observatory and its giant Mark I radio telescope. (photo: Alan Gould)

Part of the pre-conference trip to Jodrell Bank also included a visit to their planetarium. Here we can see IPS Past President Jim Manning outside the planetarium with the giant Mark I radio telescope looming in the background. (photo: Alan Gould)

Jodrell Bank PlanetariumInside the Jodrell Bank Planetarium
Even if it's at a world famous installation, like at Jodrell Bank, a planetarium looks pretty much the same on the inside as anywhere else. This particular view, however, is unusual as it contains a Nessie, or two! (photo: Thomas Kraupe)

John Elvert and Alan Gould...A Day at Jodrell Bank
Two of the members of the pre-Conference tour to Jodrell Bank were John Elvert (representative to IPS from from the PPA) and Alan Gould (of the IPS Web sub-committee). (photo: Alan Gould)

IPS Council Meeting at NCR...Continuing IPS Council Meeting at the New Connaught Rooms
Sunday, 27 June found the IPS Council back in chambers again to continue on with the various issues to be decided before the actual Conference started. Here we see them meeting at the Cambridge Room of the New Connaught Rooms conference center. (photo: Thomas Kraupe)

Editor's Note...
In spite of our continuing best efforts on a daily basis, we found that it was just not possible (at least this time) to post any web pages during the actual IPS98 Conference. Differences in connectors, access to computers, digital cameras that wouldn't yield up their contents, or would just go dead at critical moments, ftp software that wouldn't ftp, etc.... it all added up to not being able to bring you "The Daily Planetarian" on a daily basis.

This post-Conference posting of "The Daily Planetarian" is the next best thing that is possible. We hope that you enjoy it.
